Douglas fir is a surprising species, as it is highly plastic (good adaptability). Its wood is used for a variety of purposes. The Douglas fir's dura, or heartwood, has characteristics that give it good natural resistance to insects and fungi. For this reason, certain specific treatments are unnecessary when stored outdoors. It adapts well to environments with high humidity. All these characteristics make Douglas fir wood highly sought after in the market and highly valued in sales (depending on quality) by forestry experts. Furthermore, although profitability is not a concern in the forest, Douglas fir can provide annual growth of between 15 and 25 m3 per year, making it the best timber producer in France or even Europe. Clearly, land prices are at the same level as timber production. All of Douglas fir's qualities make it a species of the present and, undoubtedly, of the future. |
